What if I’m in crisis?

  • ComCare Community Crisis Center provides a local, 24-hour crisis hotline at (316) 660-7500 that provides telephone intervention, in-person services, and a mobile unit.
  • In the event of an emergency, please call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room.

What services are available?

The CFL currently offers couples, family, and individual therapy services for Friends University students, their families, and greater Wichita community members. Suite Therapy is also available to Friends University students.

How can I pay for services?

The CFL accepts the following forms of payment:

  • Debit cards
  • Credit cards
  • Health saving account (HSA) cards
  • Flex saving account (FSA) cards
  • Checks made out to: Friends University, Center on Family Living, or CFL. (in-person services only)
  • Cash – Clients must bring the exact amount owed or the difference will be applied for use at a future session as the CFL is not able to make change. (in-person services only)

Friends University students may also pay in advance for therapy services through the University Cashier Office.

  • Office hours are Monday-Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm, excluding holidays.
  • The University Cashier Office is located on the first floor of Sumpter Hall.

How can a parent or third party pay for my services?

Complete a release of information with your student therapist for “billing purposes only” to a parent or third party.

By Phone: Ask your parent or third party to contact the Cashier Office.

  • Provide the student’s first name, last name, date of birth, and amount to be applied to student’s therapy account.

Are my services still considered confidential at the CFL if I pay for them through the Cashier Office?

Yes, the Cashier will enter your transaction as a miscellaneous fee. The CFL and the University have policies and procedures in place to comply with HIPAA regulations to protect students’ protected health information regardless of whether you pay for services in the CFL, at the Cashier Office, or online.

After I have used my six free sessions, can my parents or I pay for multiple sessions at once?

Yes, clients and/or parents or third parties may pay for multiple sessions at one time.

When is payment due for a session?

Session fees are collected at the start of each session. If payment is not received, the client system may reschedule their appointment for a later date. The one exception to this policy occurs during a community member’s first appointment in which payment is collected at the end of session after all required documentation has been reviewed and signed by the client system. Friends University students pay at the start of each session following the use of their six free sessions.

The client will be expected to pay the assigned session fee at the beginning of every session until the CFL receives payment confirmation from the Accounting department for a student’s services.

Who is not eligible for services?

  • CFL services are available to all Friends University students and community members unless the persons are:
    • a staff or faculty member
    • a family member of a staff or faculty member of the University
    • has a family member currently enrolled in the MSFT program
    • or has a family member currently enrolled in the MSFT program
  • Ineligible people will be provided with referrals outside of the CFL. These may be offered over the phone, emailed, or mailed.

I’m worried about a Friends University student. How can I help?

What can I expect in individual therapy?

  • Therapy is a confidential process to help you learn about coping strategies and about yourself.
  • Therapy may involve sharing sensitive, personal, or private information that could be distressing at times; your student therapist is available to support you through this process.

May I schedule an appointment for someone else?

  • Only the person utilizing services may schedule appointments.
  • If there is a concern a student (or anyone) might be a danger to themselves or others, call 911, Comcare Community Crisis Center at (316) 660-7500 or take the individual to the nearest emergency room.

Will my therapist be a graduate student?

  • At the CFL, we strive to provide the highest quality of services to our clients while meeting the training needs of our graduate student therapists enrolled in the Master of Science in Family Therapy (MSFT) program. Student therapists are supervised by the clinical faculty of the MSFT program. All clinical supervisors are either approved supervisors or approved supervisors-in-training with the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy.
