Dr. Stan Harstine

Dr. Stan Harstine is an internationally recognized scholar, author, and teacher who has made significant contributions to the field of Johannine literature. He has been at Friends University since 2002, receiving the W.A. Young Award for Excellence in Teaching. A sought-after speaker, Dr. Harstine has presented his research on the Gospel and Letters of John at prestigious international conferences in Vienna (2014), Helsinki (2018), Salzburg (2022), Pretoria (2023), and Amsterdam (2024). He was also invited to present two papers at the Biblical Institute in Zagreb in 2018. Currently, he chairs the Johannine Literature section for the International Meeting of the Society for Biblical Literature. He also serves as editor for the Johannine Literature section of the Religious Studies Review journal and was the area editor for New Testament and Christian origin materials from 2017 to 2023. Dr. Harstine has authored three books on the Gospel of John, including the recent “Reading John Through Johannine Lenses,” and a Bible study on the book of Romans. Other scholars have invited him to contribute chapters to their volumes on topics such as the characterization of God as Father and the community themes in John’s writings.
