Friends University Agency Experience
CHROMA: PURITY OF COLOR
Every high school participant receives a $1,500 Visual Art Scholarship to Friends University.
These hands-on workshops will give high school students a taste of the professions within an advertising agency life and the roles they may pursue. They will experience the challenges and fun communicators face in creating effective and meaningful campaign work for clients.
We welcome high school students of all backgrounds and experience levels to participate in the workshops.
WHAT IS IT?
In one short, action-packed two hour session, students will learn the ins-and-outs of a career path in strategic communication through hands-on projects led by industry experts and visual art instructors. The workshops are centered around this year’s Agency Experience, CHROMA.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Using the Friends University Visual Art way of learning-by-doing, students will be busy exploring how creative production, copy writing, design, public relations and project management work to solve the complex communication needs of major modern brands.
Projects will be guided by experts in the field and stress the importance of working together to create a single, clear, and engaging piece of creative communication based on strategic insights.
Each student will pick one of the below projects for their session that are offered on three different days.
Environmental Design: Spray Paint Mural
Creating small murals using spray paint techniques.
Printmaking: Poster Design
Creating a poster using traditional printmaking techniques.
Media Design: Social Media Concepts
Creating social media designs using Adobe Creative Suite software.
WHAT WILL BE FEATURED?
The workshop will feature a presentation, field exercises, group project work, and personal exploration and reflection. The workshop concludes with a final presentation of the student work.
Students will walk away from the experience knowing how each individual role within a modern agency contributes to the final product, what it’s like to work with peers to solve creative problems, and with final images presented on social media. Images can be used as potential portfolio pieces.
