Friends University Ballet will present its FALL BALLET October, 17, 18, 19, in the Riney Fine Arts Center’s Sebits Auditorium. This performance will present two new ballets from Denver choreographer James Wallace and Dominic Walsh, former Principal of The Houston Ballet and Director of Dominic Walsh Dance Theatre in Houston, Texas. These two different choreographers spent two weeks this fall with the Friends dancers and produced two dynamic works especially for Friends Ballet.
James Wallace from Denver choreographed a piece by Max Richter that is challenging, beautiful and somewhat of a departure for the Ballet program. It is called “The End is the Beginning” and shows relationships in the human lives of individuals and how people work through and resolve the problems in their life. Dominic Walsh, from Houston, has choreographed a neo-classical ballet “Piano Works” to the musical composition of Griffes. This piece is washed with movement like Balanchine’s “Agon” and “The Four Temperaments” but with a contemporary twist. All of the evening’s ballets are pointe pieces.
Ending the performance is a reprieve of Director, Stan K. Rogers’ presentation of “With A Song” A frequently requested favorite with music by Richard Rodgers. Beautiful scenery, lights and costumes bring this piece to life with favorite tunes “With a Song in my Heart”, “Falling in Love” and many others.
