Friends University Showcasing Artwork by Stan K. Rogers, the Unlikely Artist

Stan K. Rogers will display his artwork in the Riney Fine Arts Gallery in the Riney Fine Arts Center November 17 through December 21, 2014. An artist reception will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. December 5th. The reception is free and open to the public, and light snacks will be served.

Rogers is associate professor and director of the Ballet Department at Friends University. His father was a visual artist and architect, and his sister is a visual artist living in Hot Springs, Ark.

As a choreographer, Rogers is accustomed to creating many different styles of dance. He works similarly with his visual artwork. His acrylic paintings are more about structure, layers and movement.

“I feel no need to paint landscapes or people because other artists do that so well,” Rogers said. “Some of my artwork gives impressions of scenes and objects, but most are just about movement in color.”

Most of his art includes large pieces with the largest being 7 feet by 6 feet.

Rogers was awarded the Arts Educator for 2008 by the Wichita Arts Council. This will be his first exhibit.
