University to spread Broadway’s ‘Good News’ on stage

The Friends University Theatre Department will present the musical comedy “Good News” at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 29-31 in the Riney Fine Arts Center’s Sebits Auditorium.

“Good News” is set on a college campus in the madcap 1920s. The big game approaches, but a failing grade looms over the school’s star player. An attractive tutor offers to help, the quarterback falls in love, but with comedy the complications arise before there’s any good news.

This musical hit opened on Broadway in 1927 with book by Laurence Schwab and B.G. DeSylva, music and lyrics by Ray Henderson, B.G. DeSylva, Lew Brown and Frank Mandel. A revised version by Wayne Bryan and Mark Madama in 1993 premiered at Music Theatre of Wichita in 1994.

Tickets costs $11 for adults, and $9 for seniors and students. They can be purchased online at friends.edu/finearts or by calling the Box Office at 316-295-5677.
