Pianist and Andover native Michael Kirkendoll will present a solo piano recital at Friends University Thursday, Sept. 24 at 7:30 p.m. in Sebits Auditorium on the Friends University campus.
Called the “very model of a 21st Century Musician” by the Indianapolis Star, Kirkendoll is now on the piano faculty of the University of Kansas and is the founder and director of the Cortona Sessions for New Music in Italy. As one of the country’s leading proponents of the music of living composers, he will present an auto-biographical recital tracing his pianistic evolution from his time in Andover to his current musical life working with composers around the world. The program will include works by Scarlatti, Beethoven and Chopin, as well as recent compositions by Györgi Ligeti, Christopher Cerrone, Frederic Rzewski, and others. More information about Michael Kirkendoll can be found online at www.michaelkirkendoll.com.
The performance will take place in Sebits Auditorium on the Friends University campus at 2100 W. University Ave., Wichita, Kansas. This performance is free and open to the public.
