Reconnecting educators with their passion for powerful teaching is the goal of the Ignite! Conference scheduled for June 13-16, 2016 at Friends University in Wichita. Teachers will be able to renew and recharge in an atmosphere of learning, sharing and support. With an additional workshop following the conference, they can potentially earn six graduate credits that will satisfy their re-licensure credits for five years.
“Mustafa Kemal Ataturk has said that ‘A good teacher is like a candle – it consumes itself to light the way for others.’ Today many teachers find their candles dimming and many need a fresh flame,” said Lisa Schmidt, director of Graduate Workshops at Friends University. “This conference is intended to stoke that flame by restoring passion, energizing attitudes and sharing ideas, strategies and best practices.”
Schmidt said the conference will feature keynote speaker Davis Laughlin, a nationally recognized educator/speaker with 34 years of experience in the classroom. He twice received his Circle School District’s teacher of the year award and was honored twice as a regional finalist in the Kansas Teacher of the Year program. He is the author of several books, including “Ripple Maker: Teaching Effectively & Loving It!” He teaches graduate workshops for teachers and provides enthusiastic professional development programs for schools and districts across the country.
