The Friends University Jazz Vocal Ensemble will conclude its concert season with a special on-campus performance Friday, April 8, at 7:30 p.m. in Sebits Auditorium in the Riney Fine Arts Center. The performance is titled “Wishing on Stars and Loving on Mars.”
The ensemble is made up of 12 vocalists and a four-piece rhythm section and will perform everything from beloved show tunes such as “When You Wish Upon a Star” and “Oh, Lady Be Good” (an Ella Fitzgerald tribute) to a vocal arrangement of Count Basie’s classic “Corner Pocket.”
Now in its seventh year under the direction of Craig Curry, the ensemble has been honored to open for Pentatonix at the Southwest American Choral Directors Association conference in 2014. The group also performed at the international conference of the Jazz Education Network in 2013 and Kansas Music Educators Association conferences in 2012 and 2015.
The performance will take place in Sebits Auditorium on the Friends University campus at 2100 W. University Ave., Wichita, Kan.. Tickets are $9 for adults and $6 for seniors and students.
