The Friends University Faculty Brass Quintet will perform Thursday, April 14, at 7:30 p.m. in Alumni Auditorium in the Davis Administration Building at Friends University.
The Faculty Brass Quintet will perform Quintet No. 2 by Victor Ewald. The Ewald quintets are recognized standards within the repertoire, and the Faculty Brass Quintet includes them regularly in their performances. The Quintet No. 2 is unique in that the second movement is a rather lengthy set of six variations on a theme.
Also featured in the concert are the members of the Friends University Tower Wind Quintet. The two quintets will combine forces to perform Concertino for Wind and Brass Quintets by Robert Washburn. Other works on the program include Fugue from Concerto in D minor by Antonio Vivaldi and a piece named for the Kansas town of Dodge City by Jeff Smallwood, which catches the flavor of the Wild West.
The performance will take place in Alumni Auditorium on the Friends University campus at 2100 W. University Ave., Wichita, Kan. The performance is free and open to the public.
