Friends University has hired Dr. Guy Chmieleski as the new campus pastor and dean of campus ministries. He began working at Friends July 18 and oversees programs and services that help students grow in their faith.
“Guy brings strong leadership skills and a campus-wide approach to ministry that is intentional and welcoming,” Dr. Amy Bragg Carey said. “He has a background in and appreciation of Christian Spiritual Formation, which is a wonderful fit with Friends strength as a national leader in the study and training of spiritual formation.”
Dr. Chmieleski has extensive experience in the area of campus ministries, including serving as the university minister at Belmont University in Tennessee, the coordinator of chapel/convocation at Pepperdine University and the coordinator of campus ministries at Palm Beach Atlantic University.
Guy is a regular speaker at conferences and events and has authored three books: “Noise, Hurry, and Crowds: On Creating Space for God Amidst the Chaos of Campus and Culture” (2015); “CAMPUS gODS: Exposing the Idols that Can Derail Your Present and Destroy Your Future” (2013); and “Shaping Their Future: Mentoring Students Through Their Formative College Years” (2013).
He earned a Doctor of Ministry from George Fox Evangelical Seminary after completing a Master of Art in Ministry from Palm Beach Atlantic University and a Bachelor of Art in Youth Ministry from Bethel University, St. Paul, Minn.
“We are excited to welcome Guy and his family to Friends University and to Wichita,” said Dr. Carey.
