Wichita, KS – Friends University Concert Choir will perform Southerly Inspirations Monday, April 10, at 7:30 p.m. in Sebits Auditorium in the Riney Fine Arts Center.
Southerly Inspirations is a concert of music from or inspired by the music of the countries south of the U.S.’s southernmost latitude. Though influenced by European music, colonial Mexico and South America produced a wealth of beautiful music with its own style and flavor. That tradition has produced and influenced composers through the years, as displayed in Glenn McClure’s Kyrie from his Saint Francis in the Americas: A Caribbean Mass featuring Friends University percussion instructor, Dr. Von Hansen.
“As we continue our trek around the globe, you will get to enjoy music by Australian composer David Basden, a gorgeous Maori lullaby, a haunting piece from India, and the rhythmic and engaging music of Africa,” said Rolaine Hetherington, Concert Choir director.
Also featured in the concert is Howard Glanton, classical guitar instructor at Friends University, and the Friends University Guitar Ensemble under the direction of Randy Zellers.
Tickets for adults are $9; students and seniors are $6. Tickets can be purchased by calling Friends University at 316-295-5677. The performance will take place in Sebits Auditorium in Riney Fine Arts Center on the Friends University campus at 2100 W. University Ave., Wichita, Kan.
