Friends University’s Master of Business Administration with an accounting concentration ranks No. 22 in the nation and is the only program listed in Kansas among the top 25 online accounting master’s degree programs, according to TheBestColleges.org.
“Friends University’s MBA with an accounting concentration is excellent, offering abundant career opportunities for our accounting graduates,” said Dr. David Hofmeister, dean of the College of Adult and Professional Studies and the Graduate School. “Some of our recent graduates are business leaders, managers, securities analysts and Certified Public Accountants.”
Friends University offers a Professional MBA and a Global MBA. Both can include the accounting concentration for working professionals who have an accounting degree or the equivalent. Both degrees with the accounting concentration are offered online and on campus, and neither require the GRE or GMAT for entrance.
The accounting concentration prepares students for leadership positions in business. The program’s purpose is to develop students’ skills in the functional areas with profit and non-profit organizations. After completing all courses required by the Kansas State Board of Accountancy (KSBOA) and successfully accomplishing 150 or more credits, students are qualified to sit for the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) exam. Additionally, students with at least two continuous years of professional experience in management accounting or financial management can also sit for the Certified Management Accountant (CMA) exam.
“With the increasing job opportunities for accountants and auditors, the MBA program at Friends helps fill a gap in the labor pool by simultaneously providing employers with trained employees who also have higher-level critical thinking and decision-making skills,” Dr. Hofmeister said. “Prospective job applicants with master’s degrees and with professional recognitions, such as CPAs or CMAs, are more likely to receive jobs than applicants without such qualifications.”
The Bureau of Labor Statistics accountant and auditor professions will grow 11 percent (faster than average) from 2014 to 2024.
