Friends University plans to host a watch party for the solar eclipse Aug. 21 that will be open to students, alumni, faculty, staff, the Delano neighborhood and the public.
Assuming the weather cooperates and the eclipse will be visible, the watch party will take place north of the Davis Administration Building (clock tower building) from 11:40 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Tracy Tuttle, a physics instructor in the Division of Natural Sciences and Mathematics at Friends, will set up equipment to safely view the eclipse.
The height of the eclipse in Wichita will occur around 1 p.m. The event coincides with the first day of the fall semester at Friends University.
“We are encouraging our campus community and inviting the larger community to take a few minutes to view this amazing display of God’s good and beautiful creation,” said Dr. Amy Bragg Carey, president of Friends University. “What a memorable way for students to begin the start of our fall 2017 semester.”
Friends University, a Christian University of Quaker heritage, equips students to honor God and serve others by integrating their intellectual, spiritual and professional lives.
