Friends to celebrate 25th annual Jazz Festival Feb. 16-17

More than 35 middle school, high school and junior college bands will visit Friends University to celebrate and participate in the 25th Annual Jazz Festival Feb. 16-17 in Sebits Auditorium, Riney Fine Arts Center.

The Jazz Vocal Concert will be Friday, Feb. 16, at 7:30 p.m. and will feature Carmen Bradford. Also performing that evening is the Friends University Jazz Vocal Ensemble, The Standard Vocal Jazz Ensemble (KC Community College) and the University of North Texas 3 O’Clock Lab Band.

On Saturday, Feb. 17, the Headliner Concert, featuring the Jazz Festival All-Stars takes place at 7:30 p.m. Featured will be Bobby Watson, saxophone; Matt Wilson, drums; Jerry Hahn, guitar; Nathan Hittle, piano; Lee Rucker, trumpet; and Glenn Holmes, bass.

“The festival brings in more than 850 middle school, high school and junior college students along with directors,” said Lisa Hittle, jazz director. “Plus, it is two nights of outstanding jazz concerts for the public to enjoy.”

Tickets are $15 for adults, and $12 for seniors and students for each night of performances. They may be purchased online at friends.edu/finearts, or by calling the Fine Arts Box Office at 316-295-5677.
