Wichita, KS- Friends University will present its Jazz Combo Showcase March 14 at 7:30 p.m.
This year’s showcase will feature special guest artist, trumpet Pete Hittle. Hittle was a band director in Iowa for most of his career, but is currently living and playing trumpet in New Orleans and the surrounding area.
There will also be three student combos, and a visit from the Friends University Faculty Jazz Quartet.
The concert is themed the “Contrafact Concert.” A jazz contrafact is a new musical composition written over the harmony of a jazz standard. Some of these new melodies were written by faculty and students, and some are by jazz masters.
The showcase will take place in Sebits Auditorium, Riney Fine Arts Center on the Friends University campus at 2100 W. University Ave., Wichita, Kan. Ticket prices are $6 for adults, and $3 for seniors and students.
