Wichita, KS – The Friends University Tower Wind Quintet will present its 17th annual recital Tuesday, March 27, at 7:30 p.m.
The quintet is comprised of faculty members: Amy Hoffman, flute; Rachelle Goter, clarinet; Cindy Thompson, oboe; Denise Kintzel, horn; and Kimme Whittemore, bassoon.
Featured soprano soloist Rolaine Hetherington will join the quintet. Hetherington serves as Concert Choir director and assistant professor of music at Friends University.
“We are really excited this year about our collaboration with Rolaine Hetherington, soprano,” said Amy Hoffman, quintet flute. “She has a beautiful voice that is perfect for ‘Nuits d’ete’ by Berlioz. She will sing two of these romantic love songs. In addition, she will be featured on the closing piece, “Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing,” which our oboe player, Cindy Thompson, arranged for us.”
Programming also includes fan-favorite “Partita for Wind Quintet” by Irving Fine. “The Partita is a standard in the quintet repertoire. While Fine composed for many genres, he is best known for this piece,” Hoffman said. Other recital repertoire includes “Suite on a Dutch Folksong” by Hugo de Groot and “Presto” by Haydn.
The performance will take place in Sebits Auditorium, Riney Fine Arts Center on the Friends University campus at 2100 W. University Ave., Wichita, Kan. Tickets are free and the recital is open to the public.
