Kaitlyn Matzen, of Derby, Kan., was honored at a recent signing ceremony at Friends University in Wichita. While attending Derby High School, Kaitlyn received a 79/80 at last year’s Kansas State High School Activities Association’s (KSHSAA) State Solo and Small Ensembles Festival and an 80/80 score at KSHSAA’s District Solo and Ensemble Festival. She also won Friends University’s master class for Sing It!, an annual vocal festival at Friends.
“We are so excited to have Kaitlyn as a student. We believe her talent will pair perfectly with the quality programs we offer here at Friends,” said Toni Libhart, assistant professor of music and percussion and academic recruitment coordinator.
Kaitlyn is the daughter of David and Makayla Matzen. On Tuesday, May 22, she signed her National Letter of Intent to attend Friends University, where she will pursue her vocal performance degree. She received a vocal scholarship and plans to use her degree to travel the world performing opera.
