Friends University to present one-act Singspiel, The Impresario

Wichita, KS – The Friends University music department will present, The Impresario, a one-act singspiel (a comic opera with spoken dialogue) composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Thursday, March 7, at 7:30 p.m.

The Impresario is set to a German libretto by Gottlieb Stephanie, who performed the role of the Impresario at the work’s premiere for Emperor Joseph II at the Schonbrunn palace in Vienna in 1786. The Friends University performance will feature an English adaptation by Giovanni Cardelli.

The show offers a satirical take on the life of an opera house, starring an impresario (the opera’s manager and producer) who would rather retire to his farm than deal with opera house politics, his aspiring buffo baritone assistant and two dueling divas. The cast features Trista Guthrie as Madame Goldentrill, Bethany Filer as Miss Silverpeal, Asael Gonzalez as Mr. Angel, Panya Amphone as Mr. Bluff, and Tucker Tasker as Mr. Scruples, the impresario.

The production is directed by Dr. Matthew Schloneger, assistant professor of voice, and will be performed with Sean Hephner, piano.

The event is free and open to the public and will take place at Friends University in Alumni Auditorium, Davis Administration Building.
