Wichita, KS- Friends University is excited to announce its 2019-20 Fine Arts events calendar. You are invited to mark your calendars with all the upcoming events- traditional to new.
Favorites such as the Symphony of Spring and Christmas Candlelight will be returning. The 27th annual Jazz festival is always a highlight with a nationally acclaimed guest artist. This year is no exception with trumpeter Bobby Shew. He has been heard in popular films including Grease, Rocky I and II, and The Muppet Movie. The ballet department will again present Ellington’s Nutcracker – a jazz twist to the Christmas classic featuring renowned guest artists.
New events are sure to impress, including Bright Star, a tony-nominated musical by Edie Brickell and well-known actor and comedian, Steve Martin. Die Fledermaus will be a beautiful collaboration between the music and ballet departments. You won’t want to miss the Residency with composer Gwyneth Walker. The interdisciplinary nature of her work means that many artists will be joining forces: the Friends Concert Choir, Community Orchestra, Wichita Community Children’s Choir, photographer Mickey Shannon, guest artists Musica Harmonia, members of the Native American community, Friends ballet students, and other students and faculty.
“We look forward to having you join us at Friends University. Enjoy, discover and delight in the fine arts this season!” said Fine Arts Division Chair Dr. Joan Griffing.
