Wichita, KS- The Friends University Fine Arts department will host a free Creative Workshop series every other Tuesday in the month of October. Each lunch-time class will feature a different special guest.
On Oct. 1 from 1-2 p.m in Sebits Auditorium, Hal Grossman, founder of The Grossman Method and Professor of Music at the University of Oregon, will present “No Pain, ALL GAIN”. This workshop takes musicians, dancers and actors through a series of stretches and breathing exercises specifically designed to alleviate muscle tension and slow heart rates during performance or practice.
On Oct. 15 from 1-2 p.m. in Sebits Auditorium, William Michals will present “Tips from a ‘Bright Star’ on Broadway”. Michals was a member of the original Broadway cast of Bright Star and will be conducting a masterclass featuring cast members of Friends University’s fall production of Bright Star. He will be performing in a guest concert later that evening at 7:30 p.m. in Alumni Auditorium.
On Oct. 29 from 1-2 p.m. in Riney Fine Arts Center- C6, Joshua Billingsley will present “The Secret to ‘Making It’ in the Music Scene.” Billingsley is a successful trumpet player from Austin, TX. In this workshop class, he will reveal tips on how to thrive as a professional musician. This includes sharpening musical, social media and online marketing skills.
All events will take place in the Riney Fine Arts Center on the Friends University campus at 2100 W. University Ave., Wichita, Kan. The events are free and open to the public.
