Wichita, Kan, – The Friends University Concert Band will present a spring concert with Wichita East High School Symphonic Band, conducted by Maranda Wilson, April 4 at 7:30 p.m.
This concert is the last of three collaborative concerts with area high school bands.
“In addition to featuring the Wichita East Band, we are thrilled to welcome to campus composer and guest conductor Carol Brittin Chambers,” said Friends University Director of Bands, Shawn Knopp. “A consortium led by Friends University and Wichita East High School commissioned her to compose a new work for wind band.”
The commissioned work is titled Symphonic Dance No. 1 and will be premiered by the combined Friends University and Wichita East bands with the composer conducting.
The Friends University Concert Band and Wichita East Symphonic Band will perform works by Carol Brittin Chambers, Ralph Vaughan Williams, Percy Grainger, William Owens, Eric Whitacre, and Sammy Nestico.
Tickets for the concert are $6 for adults and $3 for seniors and students. The performance will take place in Sebits Auditorium in Riney Fine Arts on the Friends University campus at 2100 W. University Ave., Wichita, Kan.
