Explosion!

Explosion!

Friday, August 13 at 10:30 a.m., The Explosion! A buildup of heat under the old hot water boiler in the Davis Building, generated growing pressure that spewed the top of the boiler off. The result was a large hole in the library stack room, shaking the sub floor under the auditorium, loosing 1200 square feet of the chapel floor. Fourteen of the twenty stained glass windows were damaged with a small section of the rose window blown out. Fortunately, the blast did not impact any of the outside walls and the second boiler remained intact.  The damage was repaired within the year. Volunteers from Friends, surrounding churches, and communities devoted hours to sorting and cleaning books and salvaging lumber.
