After I have used my six free sessions, can my parents or I pay for multiple sessions at once?

Yes, clients and/or parents or third parties may pay for multiple sessions at one time.

When is payment due for a session?

Session fees are collected at the start of each session. If payment is not received, the client system may reschedule their appointment for a later date. The one exception to this policy occurs during a community member’s first appointment in which payment is collected at the end of session after all required documentation has been reviewed and signed by the client system. Friends University students pay at the start of each session following the use of their six free sessions.

The client will be expected to pay the assigned session fee at the beginning of every session until the CFL receives payment confirmation from the Accounting department for a student’s services.

I’m worried about a Friends University student. How can I help?

Read suggestions for parents and strategies for helping students in distress.

What can I expect in individual therapy?

  • Therapy is a confidential process to help you learn about coping strategies and about yourself.
  • Therapy may involve sharing sensitive, personal, or private information that could be distressing at times; your student therapist is available to support you through this process.

What can I expect in Suite Therapy?

The strategy of Suite Therapy is to introduce the 6 household members residing in each suite to learn, practice, and maintain healthy and adaptive relationships and relational dynamics with one another, as well as teach stress management and self-care strategies for improved well-being and adjustment to college life.

The psychoeducational group meets for approximately 3 – 90 minute sessions or 6 – 60 minute sessions determined by the suite’s availability and based on a predetermined curriculum. These sessions are delivered in the students’ suite. Two student therapists will be assigned to a suite and sessions are delivered in the students’ residential suite. Participation is open to all Friends University students living on-campus.

What if I live off-campus? Can I still participate in Suite Therapy?

Yes, the psychoeducational curriculum has been modified for students that live off-campus. Group Therapy: Relationship Skills for Commuter Students is Suite Therapy for Commuter Students.

The strategy and meeting times remain the same. Sessions take place in a confidential space on campus. Participation is open to all Friends University students living off-campus.

May I schedule an appointment for someone else?

  • Only the person utilizing services may schedule appointments.
  • If there is a concern a student (or anyone) might be a danger to themselves or others, call 911, Comcare Community Crisis Center at (316) 660-7500 or take the individual to the nearest emergency room.

Will my therapist be a graduate student?

Student therapists are supervised by the clinical faculty of the MSFT program. All clinical supervisors are either approved supervisors or approved supervisors-in-training with the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy.
