Friends University will host its first TEDx event Saturday, Oct. 6. The TEDxFriendsU event will be centered around the theme – “Rise to the Call: Faith, Friends, Future,” based on Friends’ tagline.
The event will take place from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, in Alumni Auditorium in the Davis Administration Building.
“We are excited about having our very first TEDx event at Friends,” said Justin Eichorn, who applied for the license along with Anne Crane, director of library. Eichorn serves as assistant professor of cyber defense and program director of adult computer information systems/cyber security. “This is an excellent opportunity for us to share information with the community through gifted speakers in the wonderful, engaging platform that TEDx events provide.”
Among the speakers to be featured at the event are:
- Suzanna Mathews, founder of The Date Maven, will speak on the need to experience love, social connections and compassion.
- Dr. Jerree Forbes, CEO at The Forbes Group LLC, will explore trends in brain technology to illuminate its use in learning, memory and an enhanced life.
- Andrea Stang, founder of The Hive, will share her story about how she is helping college educated women under the age of 45 feel supported, inspired and engaged to move our community forward.
The event will also feature two TED video talks.
TEDx events are independently organized and are given a free license from TED. Designed to empower communities, TEDx events are multidisciplinary and feature a variety of local speakers, who give brief presentations.
Students, faculty, staff, parents and community members are invited to attend this free event. Per TEDx rules, the audience is limited to the first 100 people who register. To register to attend or to volunteer at the event, visit www.friends.edu/events/tedx-talk-event.
